Remarkable Rachi my bosom friend and heroine

Remarkable Raving Rachi all the way, and all the time

Ain’t she remarkable just by her smile and posture?

It is the practice here that during third term holidays (summer holidays for you bushfallers/those who live abroad), ‘children who didn’t do well in school, or the naughty ones like myself, were sent or punished to attend holiday classes for at least one month.

We lived on another side of town, while the holiday classes mum chose was in my former primary school premises on the other side of town. I was the only one sent aka ‘punished’ but I looked so forward to that.

Prima, it was a school which held such sweet souvenirs of among others, bathing each day under the tap, fighting, and losing my school bag sometimes. I mean lots of fun and tears all mixed from that era – the first school I attended, close to 6 good formative years. Secundo, being alone meant No Supervision! You got that? I could leave home, get there, do whatever, and then go back home. I was 14 years old, just the right age too.

Soon after starting, a new student came to our class, and she was so soft and a little shy. I walked up to her at break time on her very first day, and after introducing myself, told her I found her remarkable. She already wore glasses even back then and I remember how she looked at me and then blushed oh my.

Remarkable Rachi and I have been friends since then, a friendship which is second to none other from my teenagehood. Life has happened to both of us, but we have been here and there for each other. Better friends today than ever. Rachi (now a bushfaller since university oh) sent me a remarkable coat I call my ‘pinky plush’. It’s so warm, like she knew what I needed and loved.

My pinky plush all the way even with a big sore eye lol hahaha  – photo taken 22.03.18

Maybe I will return to wearing some ‘Whoopi Goldberg’ sort of googles, or one like Rachi’s? or maybe have a pirate’s eye hahaha – anyway back to remarkable Rachi indeed.

And so, recently I asked my remarkable Rachi if I could blog about her, below is an excerpt of our chat which I got permission to share – kinda of a transcript right?

[16/03 09:21] Marie Abanga: Rachi oh, you know I get a segment for my blog called my heroines. You mind I blog about you? If yes then no problem, if no, then any preferred picture I can use?
[16/03 09:21] Marie Abanga: If no picture allowed I still understand and am grateful
[16/03 09:22] Rachi: 😂😂😂 Ayo Ayo (my nickname which has stuck – it means joy in one Nigerian dialect and so I love it)
[16/03 09:24] Rachi: Wetti I don do for ‘ve (she wonders what makes her deserve being my heroine lol) considered heroine? 😂😂. Na ma big forhead weh small sense dey inside?
[16/03 09:24] Marie Abanga: You’ve been here and here with and for me in the most simple ways
[16/03 09:25] Marie Abanga: You’ve let me into your amazing family and into your room and kitchen
[16/03 09:25] Marie Abanga: You’ve sent me my lovely coat of pinky plush
[16/03 09:26] Marie Abanga: And for the boys too, Alain yi own na near relic
[16/03 09:26] Marie Abanga: My heroines are my everyday champions
[16/03 09:26] Rachi: Oh my sweet Ayo, I am blushing (did I say she loves blushing?).
[16/03 09:27] Marie Abanga: Those few who witnessed my craze and read and heard and still loved me so
[16/03 09:27] Rachi: Ayo, what about the toilet and the bathtub? 😂😂😂
[16/03 09:27] Marie Abanga: Rachi, I tell people while they live and say it on my blog and not in church lol
[16/03 09:28] Marie Abanga: That na the most special (I mean the toilet and bathtub, 1st time I ever entered into one was at Rach’s) , you no mind I add that one? Who was already blushing now?
[16/03 09:28] Rachi: You really know. That’s why you are who you are to us too. 💋💋
[16/03 09:29] Rachi: This is what I call the little things in life go a long way.
[16/03 09:30] Marie Abanga: Rachi, I get a special relationship with toilets (remember the post the loo our love?)
[16/03 09:30] Rachi: Tell me
[16/03 09:31] Marie Abanga: Yes they do and I decide this year to always try to wear a smile for all and sundry cause you never know who will see only that one for the day, or whose life will be bettered because of that
[16/03 09:33] Marie Abanga: Growing up a ‘naughty’ child, the toilet was a hiding place from my mum’s spanking. Later oh with my step mum who forbade my brother and I from leaving our room, going to the toilet was the only logical excuse for leaving that room
[16/03 09:34] Rachi: I can imagine Ayo
[16/03 09:34] Marie Abanga: The toilet became our respite and we could go alone or together and just sit in there for even up to 20/30mins until someone knocked lol
[16/03 09:35] Rachi: Weh my dear.
[16/03 09:35] Marie Abanga: Up to today, my toilet in particular is my sanctuary more than my room
[16/03 09:35] Marie Abanga: The safest place in my home and even where I get some incredible inspiration
[16/03 09:36] Marie Abanga: I meditate more often in there, I have even fallen asleep sitting there a few times lol
[16/03 09:40] Marie Abanga: Now the best for this morning is that last week, I got the title and all 12 chapters of my 2019 book right in there, I also finally got my purpose dictated to me in Gold in there. I had my journal with me and I wrote that down and then cried before being grateful. I got the confirmation I had to go back to school and study psychology to cape the therapy achievement, and I just got an internship at Laquentinie hospital to start in April at the psychiatric ward for two months. I wore my pinky plush jacket for the interview thank you darling
[16/03 09:46] Rachi: Wow. All of this is awesome. We really get to catch up. I go try call you this weekend.

Rachi

And so dear gentle readers and followers, ain’t having such a bossom friend truly remarkable? I mean she is relaxing, reassuring, remarkable, reliable, responsible, resourceful, respectable, restful, regardful, religious, resounding, resplendent and I stop at these lol…

Let me therefore wish us all be inspired and motivated. If you have one as remarkable as Rachi in your life, treasure them, and if you are one as remarkable as Rachi to another, know you are so appreciated…

My blog seeks guests; come one, come all hurray!!!

be-my-guest
Come one, come all  !

Wow, Hello World, I have been a guest on a few other platforms to be able to say without any doubt that there is indeed joy in sharing. I appreciate and hold in esteem those who shared or hosted me on their platforms, and I am impressed by my courage in responding to the offers to share something of my story on their platform, and answer the questions and comments therefrom.

It is all such experiences which moves this 38 year old me, to  via  my blog & platform, seek out some guests. Please come one, come all and share with us all. I remember and will even throwback 3 guests posts I had when I started blogging over 3 years ago; but the principle is simple. I want my guests to feel free to share anything within the confines of the different categories of my platform! That is, anything from ‘about you’, to inspiring and motivating stuffs, poetry, books and of course mental health. I sure reserve the right on when, why and what I publish, but you can surely guess that much of what a guest decides to share via my platform will be largely uncensored… so let your words flow…

You can even write mildly about religion provided you ain’t out to convert or condemn anyone; even a little ‘pissy’ politics will sieve through…

So, what are you and yours waiting for ? I can be contacted at all times…

Thank you
Gratitude all the way

The Mystery Blogger Award: What an awesome Birthday gift

Am I any mysterious? Hahaha
Am I any mysterious? Hahaha

Wow, Hello World, I am a whole year older+2 days and I feel good… so good… I mean how better can it get to receive a mystery blogger award ? I thought I had received all sorts of awards out there, even thought to paste it up front that this blog was henceforth award free… but truth be told, who doesn’t like recognition, appreciation even if it be outright flattery ? Well I do, and am diving head on into this award game once again – I mean even if only for the reading and regaling pleasure of my Cameroonian Sister Ngumabi who nominated me. Look, she is also the first of my Cameroonian sisters or bloggers to offer me a blogging award. But then, what is this whole mystery stuff about ? I asked her  (and she’s super excited since this is her first award), and then I read her own nomination post – I copy and paste some of that to spare us some nods 🙂

WHAT IS THE MYSTERY BLOGGER AWARD?

“Mystery Blogger Award” is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging and they do it with so much love and passion.
Okoto Enigma (creator of The Mystery Blog Award)

#Now let’s talk about me#

Three things about me:

  1. I decided in May 2011 to speak my truth henceforth regardless of the price – so far so good though it sure costs a lot sometimes;
  2. My boys and my cat keep me going above all else – I hardly can hold down any anger in thei presence;
  3. I am a hopeless passionate and romantic girl, sometimes I just don’t wanna get too close to any situation which may warrant my being me

Answers to Ngumabi’s Questions

1. Is blogging a profession or just a hobby?
A hobby oh my dear – remember me the hopeless passionate?

2. Funny question: Which is your favourite fairy tale story?
Cinderella – really wish I were she or maybe somebody’s fairy God Mother?
3. What is your best advice for handling criticism?
Ignore them – Haters gonna Hate – Keep doing your thing and let them criticise until their graves!
4. What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?
Life is indeed simple, love can fluctuate, Hope should be constant, Faith is fabulous, gratitude is golden, charity has harvests you can’t imagine!
5. What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered?
I did a blog post on that on the eve of this new year: That I lived and Loved – & I loved and Lived
Aw dearest Ngumabi, thank you for the nomination. I did this for you, but am afraid I can’t follow all the rules to the letter. I can’t nominate as required, many of those I know don’t do these awards stuffs – see we past that “age” hahaha. You keep doing your thing ok girl… see you someday I mean it 🙂 And yes my best blog post is: And wow I found Love
And now to you my gentle readers and followers, anyone is welcome to regal themselves and any of us who will hop by with accepting my open nomination 🙂 – you can devise your own questions if you chose too 🙂

What gives you an edge?

For Closure

What gives you an edge?

I mean what gives you that edge?

Do not look at that guy; I mean You

What makes you think you have an edge?

Why feel superior over all the animals?

Is it the extra whiteness or blackness of your skin?

Or the very greener trees and grass in your yard?

Maybe it’s actually the size of your account?

The extra large house, car or coke?

I have seen some with an edge though

Who live as free with their back packs

No care and wear and tear

Except what you may seem to see

And now over to me

Dear lord, I pray any edge to take

Shalom is all I wish

Donna: When you meet a kindred Soul your spirit knows that…

That was our first time meeting together, barely 3 days after I braved it to obtain her number and call her…

I have a picture where I was captured laughing out my soul like that… It’s in my living room…

I had been thinking of reaching out to Donna over a month ago… I hadn’t read anything about her, nor even heard much about her… I had once been told we were going to be invited on a panel to discuss our books and co, but that never happened… That was last year…

Amusing Donna Forbin with my efforts to reach her

Last month, I started thinking a lot about this Donna … I hadn’t even googled her up… Indeed, it only dawned on me to at least google her and see her face once she agreed we could meet yesterday … The network didn’t help and so we ended up just describing each other… Needless though because we just knew each other on sight…

Donna lives right there in Limbe… that magnetic sea side city where I finished my last memoir… Gosh Donna just told I was invited any time to occupy her second room… I brought her a copy of one my book ( the one I actually have a printed copy of), and she gave me so much more

I am in a reading frenzy currently, Cortland Pfeiffer’s Taking The Mask off, Chimamanda’s half of a yellow sun and Americana, and now Donna gave me gifts of all 4 of her books… Ok you tell me how do I sleep?

When I called Donna on Monday afternoon, her voice was just what I had been dreaming of… Indeed, when I got her number in the morning, I first prayed before deciding to call in the afternoon hoping her morning hype would have calmed down ( just pure guess work and I was once again right)… Another sign I had told myself, was going to be in her tone the way she said hello… I actually prefered she say hello and not hi… And that’s exactly what she said… And in that way which just hugs your soul…

Could it be an ‘unknown Angel’ involved here all along captain?

In Cortland’s book, he talks of synchronicity and soul contracts…

Donna and I talked that Monday afternoon for 24 good minutes… I timed that, and yesterday we just had to part due to other commitments… This morning we spoke for 12 minutes cause she is on the go, ok WhatsApp chats is not factored…

Oh my, you will definitely read more about Donna on this blog… I never felt this before or met someone like this here or anywhere else for that matter… Donna herself is amazed and so grateful I called her? Ha

Her books … (I gave up sleep and I have already read 2 of them) are so … To my spirit…

Must a soul mate be of the opposite sex and someone with whom you share much more than your soul?

Donns chose that pose…Looking together in that direction: wondering and hoping 🙂

Wishing us all a nice weekend… And a ‘Donna in our lives… 🙂

Look at me: This is what I did in 53 days: Yes You Can!!!

Hello world,

I wanted to blog about something else, another great idea that popped up, but hmm the scale reading this morning just had to be shared.

A week ago, I was down to 76.5 from an initial 79.999. Lose told me if I kept it up, I could reach my target goal of 75kgs by Dec 16… I immediately thought to myself: ” why not November 16? After all even if we don’t do Thanksgiving the Americana way, I could still take my boys out for an ice cream treat on that day you know… Uh in solidarity with my Americana family especially after a recent saga of theirs… Ok let me leave them alone and rejoice a moment in what I challenged myself to do.

Frankly speaken, I share this credit with my team mates over at our Lose It groupCaptain Dyane and Sir Bradley you two inspire and motivate. Dyane is sure you who chose that name Wondrous Writers? Maybe I really do fit that bill…

I have felt discouraged by the scale reading (dreaded it to be candid), felt pain from those workouts at some forsaken 4 am thrice  or more weekly, and even found saliva around the corner as I passed the ice cream vendor especially in this season.

But oh my: 10.8 pounds in 53 days? 100 grams below my ideal weight? I am keeping that for Christmas so Help Me Almighty Daddy…

If I can do this, I think we can give whatever it is we are at a big push … All because: Yes You Can!

Sharing all my badges with you so you see what it takes 🙂

Dearest Darling Dorcas My Heroine

image

There is DDD with whom I just spent the night, changing her Son’s diapy. I missed being by her side last year while she laboured for four good days before finally giving birth via a Csection. Oh my DDD who was ever so present before,  during and after my 1st son Alain was born.

Precisely, we met 13 years ago when a pregnant me dragged her mass around looking for, yes a hairdresser again. I am picky with that you know and just like in Bamenda with Vera’s mum, I wanted to find someone my spirit could spot, if you get the point. I was all by myself in Yaounde back then,  where I currently am once more for work, and this too is a pleasant surprise. And so, going back to then, I toured the neighbourhood and finally settled on the salon where DDD worked.

Since that day, she did my hair as often as I could spot her. And we relocated to Douala almost around the same time and so she kept doing the hair.  In short, I didn’t go to the salon anymore, she came to my house or I went to hers which ever. Reminds me of Fati in Brussels.

When I returned to Cameroon in August, I prayed my Lord and Luck to reunite with my 3 special sisters who are Beautiful Bea, Virtuous Vera and of course DDD. I was moaning to the heavens on the 30th of November how I didn’t want to enter December without meeting DDD to round up my lucky reunions.

I mean all the reunions happened like in the movies. BB I met on my way back from church, on a day I had almost not gone, and to a church so far away; VV I got her number after tracing her mum’s salon, after all this years, and after  convincing the lady I met there to give me her number; and DDD I met on the 30th of November at 6 pm on my way back from work as I looked out of the cab. She was in the market not so far from the salon we’d first met, all of this just pure coincidence because she no longer works nor lives in Yaounde, and can’t tell why she came to the market that late and etc. Neither can I explain why I was in the cab, looking out at that time etc

image

Oh at last my DDD has a son, she who had been pronounced sterile!!! He is such a buoyant boy and already learning to play the xylophone or whatever that instrument is. I went to where she was visiting last evening, and invited them over for the night. In short, she had planned to return to Douala today, but will wait for me so we all return tomorrow.

For all she’s been through,  all the dreadful stories she told me last night, all the times she almost made it, lost it all and started again, she is really my DDD and Heroine.

Dear all, what a way to end the year? What glad tidings especially since my relocation home? I’ll be picking up Alain from Boarding House this Sunday precisely 3 months after he left. Am sure he’ll be equally thrilled to visit DDD and her son.

To celebrate it all, I am letting my hair grow again  – because I have my ultimate hairdresser back 🙂

To God be the Glory Great Things He Hath Done…
